Crew on Sea was founded by Tjeerd Lathouwers, a lifelong sailor with a deep connection to the sea and a clear vision for how professional yacht crewing should be done.

Tjeerd grew up on the water and began dinghy sailing at just six years old. His passion quickly developed into a professional path — spending five years in the Dutch national sailing team, competing in regattas across Europe and learning what teamwork and precision truly mean at sea.

After his competitive sailing years, Tjeerd built his career in the maritime industry, working on small and large yachts, tugboats, and completing sailing yacht deliveries throughout Europe.
He also went to college at the Seafarers School (STC) in Rotterdam, gaining a solid foundation in seamanship, safety, and professional maritime standards.

While working on yachts across Europe, Tjeerd found out that smaller vessels rarely had access to a simple, all-in crew solution.
There was no single package covering everything — instead, owners faced separate bills and unexpected extra costs every time something changed.
