As a Dedicated Captain at Crew on Sea, you are assigned to a 17-meter yacht for a fixed period of five months during the Mediterranean season.

You take full operational responsibility for the vessel and manage all aspects of its daily operation throughout the contract period. On a yacht of this size, you are not only the captain — you are closely involved in the practical execution of operations.

Your responsibilities include:

• Safe navigation and voyage planning

• Docking and manoeuvring in Mediterranean marinas

• Daily technical checks and basic maintenance oversight

• Preparing the yacht before owner or guest arrival

• Assisting with mooring operations and deck work

• Managing provisioning coordination when required

• Direct communication with the owner

• Ensuring compliance with maritime regulations

On a 17-meter yacht, you are expected to be hands-on. You handle manoeuvres independently, manage close-quarter docking confidently, and maintain a high standard of presentation and operational readiness.

Unlike a rotational role, you remain attached to this vessel for the full five-month period. You build familiarity with the yacht’s systems, handling behaviour, and owner preferences, ensuring consistency and trust throughout the season.

Preparation & Onboarding

Before the season begins, you complete a structured onboarding process, including:

• Full vessel walkthrough and system familiarisation

• Review of documentation and compliance requirements

• Alignment with owner expectations

• Operational planning for the season

• Alignment with Crew on Sea standards and reporting

A strong and independent manoeuvring ability is required before starting this position. The onboarding phase ensures operational alignment — not basic training.

Certification Requirements – Seasonal Captain (17m Yacht)

To qualify, you must hold:

• Yachtmaster Offshore (Commercially Endorsed)

• STCW Basic Safety

• Medical First Aid

• Security Awareness

• VHF – SRC

• Valid medical certificate

In addition, you must:

• Have demonstrable experience manoeuvring yachts around 15–20 meters

• Be fully confident docking independently in Mediterranean marinas

• Speak fluent English (spoken and written)

• Be comfortable working hands-on in a small operational environment
