Fleet Deckhand – South of France

As a Fleet Deckhand at Crew on Sea, you work on a variety of small yachts throughout the season.

One day you may be assisting on a 25-meter motor yacht during an owner’s weekend trip to Corsica. The next, you may support operations on a 16-meter charter yacht for a day charter along the Côte d’Azur. You work across different yacht types — from sporty open yachts to flybridge motor yachts — each with its own layout, deck configuration, and operational structure.

Your responsibilities include:

• Mooring operations and line handling

• Fender placement and docking support

• Assisting the captain during manoeuvres

• Guest welcome and boarding assistance

• Washdowns and deck presentation

• Basic deck maintenance and safety checks

Each vessel requires awareness, clear communication, and efficient movement on deck. Cleat positions differ. Boarding situations change. Marina conditions vary daily. You learn to adapt quickly and operate confidently in busy Mediterranean ports.

This variation builds real seamanship experience across multiple platforms rather than familiarity with only one vessel.

Operating as a Fleet Deckhand is therefore not only a professional responsibility — it is also strong preparation for progression toward larger yachts. Exposure to different deck layouts, docking environments, and guest expectations creates a solid foundation for growth within the superyacht industry.

Familiarisation & Training

Before you begin active service days, you complete a structured familiarisation phase.

During this phase, you step on board different yachts within our network to understand deck layouts, cleat positioning, fender setups, mooring configurations, and safety equipment locations.

You practise line handling techniques, communication during docking procedures, and coordinated movements with the captain. The goal is to ensure that you can step onto any yacht within our fleet and perform immediately and professionally.

A basic understanding of seamanship and mooring operations is required before joining Crew on Sea. The familiarisation phase is designed to standardise procedures and align deck operations with Crew on Sea standards — not to teach basic seamanship from the beginning.

Only after this alignment process are you deployed on active assignments.
